New Mortal Gods Art

Back in March, I teased some excerpts of original artwork for upcoming stories. I’ve created new Mortal Gods artwork since then. And I’m teasing excerpts of these new pieces right now.
None of the pieces are necessarily finalized nor am I certain that I will use them. However, the artwork helps grow the Mortal Gods universe by providing some visuals for it.
I like this group of art better than the one I posted in March. Nothing against what I showed then; I just think I’ve made some improvements with what I am displaying now. For instance, there is more of a sense of action in this group of art. Also, there are greater differences between some of the pieces.
Hope you enjoy the sneak peeks.

Letters of Marque and Reprisal – Chapter 1

Letters of Marque and Reprisal is an original, light-hearted, espionage story. It resides within a self-contained universe. I am publishing it serially here at Liberate Liberty and simultaneously at Liberty Island Magazine, and I will do so on an irregular schedule. Click on the “Letters of Marque and Reprisal Serial” tag at the bottom to access all chapters that have been published.

Chapter 1:
Bill Navarro stood outside the bus door, just to the side closest to the engine. “Over there,” he kept saying as people flowed off the bus. He didn’t have to say it. He didn’t have to have point at the spot where he wanted them either. It was just a short distance away and once the first person reached it, it became obvious where the rest of them should go. But he kept doing it until everyone had exited. All 50 of them or so. He climbed up the steps and stood next to the bus driver, quickly glancing from front to back to verify it was empty. Then he hopped outside again.
He unbuttoned the …

‘Sodom by the Susquehanna:’ How this Brand New Story Got Its Title

Mortal Gods: “Sodom by the Susquehanna” is a brand new serial story. I published the first chapter yesterday and will continue publishing new chapters on an irregular basis. (It starts with a bang so go read it if you haven’t already done so.) And since it has a bit of a unique title I thought I’d share its origin.
The Patriot-News in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania published an article on January 16, 2000 titled, “Sodom by the Susquehanna – Current crop of scandalous exploits recalls Legislature’s corruption troubles of 1970s.”
Harrisburg is the Pennsylvania state capital, hence the Legislature is in it. Therefore, the article title is referring to Harrisburg as Sodom. Sodom, of course, is the evil city in the Bible which God destroys with fire and brimstone from heaven. (See Genesis 19 for the story of the destruction of Sodom. And read a few chapters before that for more of the story of it and the equally evil city of Gomorrah.)
And the “Susquehanna” in the article title refers to the Susq…

Mortal Gods: “Sodom by the Susquehanna” – Chapter 1

Mortal Gods: “Sodom by the Susquehanna” is an original story set in the universe of Mortal Gods. I am publishing it serially on an irregular schedule. Click on the “Mortal Gods SBTS Serial” tag at the bottom to access all chapters that have been published.

Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven. – Genesis 19:24 (King James Version)
Chapter 1:
Tyler Ott kicked the grape hyacinth that had somehow managed to grow in that tiny crack in the sidewalk. It bounced to the concrete and then sprang upright again. He smiled at the survivor. Still, it was better to thrive than simply survive. Indeed, that was a central part of the official vision for the Republic Restoration Initiative. The one-line statement read, “The vision of RRI is for an America that thrives through a return to Christian values.”
He had worked for RRI for two years. Or it would be two years next month. And he was as excited about his work as he ever was. The new b…
